Leather Mate and Saddles Care

Proper care of a saddle is important. Whether it be a western, english or dressage saddle, you want your show saddle to look its best and preferrably not take forever getting to look that way. Leather Mate is one of the most popular products for horseback riders in Canada and the United States. LeatherMate can do all of your cleaning and conditioning in one step. The mineral salts in Leather Mate will clean your leather saddle, the lanolin and carnauba will moisturize, waterproof and protect and shine.

One of the most wonderful aspects of Leather Mate is that it will not stain! You can treat a western show saddle just before a show - it will only take you 15-30 minutes to fully treat - and within minutes of applying Leather Mate, you will be able to seat the saddle without any of the LeatherMate product coming off or staining your clothes. (If it is a very hot day you may want to wait about 20 minutes.) If there is any dirt on the saddle or on any of your other tack such as your stirrups or bridles, brush or scrape it off before applying Urad.

Sun and saddle leather do not always go together well - the sun will dry leather out. Apply Leather Mate regularly to keep the leather saddle moisturized.

For parts of the saddle that have been worked, use much less Leather Mate so that there is no build up. Best way to do this is to use the sponge to apply it to other areas and then with the tiny bit that is left - use that. You can also use on your bridles safely as Leather Mate is non-toxic.
